The Netherlands is located in the western part of Europe. The country is bordered by the North Sea, Belgium and Germany. The land surface of the Netherlands is 41,528 square kilometers of which about 18% consists of water. The capital of the Netherlands is Amsterdam. Abroad, the country is often also referred to as Holland due to the provinces North Holland and South Holland. The small Netherlands has a population of around 16 million and offers excellent shopping in the various downtown markets and shopping centres. In addition, the Netherlands is renowned for its water works and museums which are truly worth a visit.
