The day trip to warappa Creek starts from Paramaribo, where the guide stops at some colonial buildings that have a link with the area we are going to be visiting in district Commewijne.
Departure from Paramaribo by bus through the district of Commewijne. From Alkmaar we travel by boat on the Commewijne river to the former plantation of Reynsdorp, the little village ‘Bakkie’.
Depending on the tide we might first visit Bakkie and it’s museum where we can find all kinds of things that are found while excavating the Warappa creek. After this we take a drive behind a tractor along the still active citrus plantation of Alliance followed by a nice lunch.
After lunch we go on a boatride through the Warappa creek. A beautiful creek that has just been re‐opened. And thus having conserved it’s history for years.
Along the way we visit an old steam sugar factory from the 1830’s as well as other old constructions and authentic elements from the colonial plantation period. After a while the creek transforms into an old canal. This is where the birdwatcher’s paradise starts. If we’re lucky we can spot big flogs of scarlet Ibis and other special species of birds.
We continue our trip till we reach the Altlantic Ocean where we enjoy the sights from the birdwatching cabin and take a walk on the beach. We return to Bakkie for a sanitary stop before heading home.
At the end of the afternoon we return to the city.
