Paramaribo located on the left bank of the Surinam River, about 12 miles upstream from where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Known as the ‘Wooden City of South America’ it is on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites.
It is a richly historical city, with strong Dutch, British and French influences evident in its leafy avenues and colonial buildings. Your tour includes visits to the city’s largest Hindu temple and the famous Palm Garden, created in 1682 and home to more than 1000 palm trees. Fort Zeelandia (originally Fort Willoughby) was built by British colonists in 1651. It was taken by the Dutch in 1667, who renamed it Fort Zeelandia. From the Independence Square you will also see the Presidential Palace. The tour includes a brief visit to the Largest wooden Cathedral of this continent, Fort Zeelandia, the Hindu temple and the Synagogue. On the end of the tour your guide will take you back to the ship.
